Client-Server platform to support an IoT environment

Challenge

The business case here is that our client manufactures meters and also offers/sells a client-server software solution where the service providers (that buy our client’s meters) can:

• Organize meters in a Location hierarchy (Buildings/Tenants/Meters).
• Allocate install/reading orders to technicians, that have the client application installed on their windows tablets. (a generic workflow put in place)
• Configure smart devices (using driver provided by client) to read over Bluetooth the reading values of neighboring meters and send the values over GSM to a target server.
• Automatically receive and store reading values from smart devices
• Export the reading values to different formats (CSV, Excel) to be later imported in different tool for billing
• Export reading values to SAP MDM system.

Solution

The client was looking for a custom solution to support an IoT (Internet of things) environment that would help centralize the distribution of work to technicians for tasks like meter reading operations, installations and repairs. Infobest developed a main application that will help our client to tackle this tasks and more.

The main application is a desktop client server solution that aims to:

• Organizing/configuring/repairing/reading various smart meters
• Organization of meters at the owner and location level
• Automatic recording of reading data received from smart meters that send this information via GSM
• Data export to SAP billing or local modules in CSV/EXCEL format.
